Women’s soccer @ Monmouth

Knox college women’s soccer team came out on (prairie) fire tonight in their match against the fighting Scots of Monmouth College. This (prairie) firey rivalry has always been one to watch on the gridiron, or the hardwood, but on the pitch? Even as a super duper fan, I was a little nervous on the drive to, as was claimed overheard by one Monmouth college student sitting behind me, “the best grass field in the entire MWC.” This sports writer has yet to confirm this.

The women came out hot tonight scoring on a nicely played ball by Lydia Mitchell 0:40 into the match. Lydia was unavailable for comment afterwards because there was still 89:20 left to play, please be kind. From that moment on the women kept the Monmouth Scots at arms length away, kicking the ball here and there, and playing a tough defense that kept Monmouth out of the net the entire time thanks to stonewall goal keeping by Carina Escobar.

“You better check her cleat for boogers!”

Heckle of the night from one Knox College super duper fan on an uncalled MC high kick that nearly ended up in Senior Defender Haleigh Lecklitner’s nose.

To give credit to the Scots, there were some deep possessions into the Prairie Fire territory, but solid defensive technique and teamwork halted even the fiercest of attacks.

It was a good team win.

Head Coach Taylor Houck

All in all, this amateur sports writer and super duper fan is proud of these women for doing their best and coming home with a conference win.
