Our women’s soccer team traveled up to Appleton Wisconsin to take on the Lawrence University Vikings. While this super duper fan did not travel that far, being able to watch the feed from the comfort of one’s own couch is a pretty neat thing. What a time to be alive.
The weather looked crisp and overcast, but that didn’t stop our women from attacking the Vikings defense from the onset. Within the first five minutes of the game (no one on the PFSN staff knows for sure because the live feed ‘clock’ only tells you how much time is left….in five minute increments….) one of a beautifully played corner kick from Lydia Mitchell, Austria’s own Louise Schoeffel, known for her physicality and grit, placed the ball into the lower 90 of the net for a Prairie Fire goooooaaaaaallllllll.
At the 10 minute mark, the Vikings decided it’d be cute to score. Apparently that lit a (prairie) fire under our cleats and, in classic Knox fashion, Lydia Mitchell said “hold my Thai Peanut Noodles” and sent one right past the Vikings goal keeper. Our defense really stepped up to the challenge at the end of the first half buckling down and shutting the Viking attack down to a gentle breeze thanks to Deb “the enforcer” Bonales.
Yeah. Do that. Kick it. Chase it. Something.
Heckle of the game from some random Lawrence fan off camera.
The second half was business as usual for the Prairie Fire as they kept the pressure on the Vikings spending most of the time in the attacking third. They spent so much time in the Vikings end of the pitch, I heard rumor that they will be renaming it after assistant coach Annie Gerdes. This is a developing story, and probably not true.
Not to miss out on the fun, The pride of Tuscon, Senior Emma Art adds to the Prairie Fire total somewhere near the 13th minute. It was a brilliant scoring opportunity set up by some passes and some kicks. This was followed by Louise Schoeffel’s *~*second*~* goal of the game a few minutes later leaving us with the final score of 4-1 in favor of my besties, the Knox College Prairie Fire.
It was a good team effort.
Head Coach Taylor Houck in the post game interview
As the game came to an end, this sports reporter is proud of the way our team responded to the Lawrence goal, stuck to the game plan, and continued the tradition of having fun while playing. That’s how we do soccer ball at Knox College. #FireUp
